News/Events

Here are the most recent Cadent news and event announcements:

Failure of Cloud Service

On July 17, 2015, at 8:45am EST, the provider who hosts the Cadent web site as well as syncing services experienced what they called a "catastrophic hardware failure”.  They were not able to recover the lost sites/systems from backups.  Their summary: "We are now classifying this as a complete data loss.”  Certainly not news anyone wants to hear.

I had occasionally taken snapshots of the entire system, but as it is several gigabytes of data, I did not do this very often.  I basically was trusting that the provider was doing daily backups which would work so I was very lax in these snapshots.

This weekend, I rebuilt the site from the last snapshot I had.  It was from Oct. 15, 2014!!!  The web site has not changed at all since then so there was no loss there.  It has taken awhile to get the security certificate (SSL certificate) properly re-installed.  As such, many customers have seen communication errors and other such problems.  As of this writing, the certificate seems to be working, but I have seen the occasional failure possibly due to residual caching.

iOS 7 Broke wineCellar 1.17

It turns out that the iOS 7 upgrade has indeed broken a critical function of wineCellar.  The fields which, when edited, use a field with a “picker wheel” are missing the field.  This means you cannot tap the field to add new values which are not already on the picker wheel.

The issue has been fixed and version 1.18 has been submitted to the Apple Store for review.  A side benefit of 1.18 is it was built with the iOS 7 libraries so it takes on the new look-and-feel of iOS 7 when running on upgraded devices.

For an explanation as to why this was not caught ahead of time, see Doug’s blog.

wineCellar Works with Mountain Lion

The latest version of Cadent wineCellar does work fine with Apple's latest OS release: Mountain Lion (10.8).  There is one exception: installing a new copy of wineCellar once you have upgraded to Mountain Lion from the installer you get from our web site will be blocked by Gatekeeper.  Installing from the Mac App Store will work fine.

The workaround is to temporarily tell Gatekeeper to let you run applications from anywhere.  You will find this setting under the Security & Privacy system preference.  Once you have successfully run wineCellar once, you can return this setting back to where you would like it.

iPad Winner

The Cadent survey is now closed.  Thank you to all who responded.  The information gathered will be very helpful in product development.

A random draw of survey participants has been done, and the winner of a new iPad is: Amber Piche!!  Congratulations Amber!!!  A new iPad ordered directly from the Apple Store is on its way to you.
